Yesterday the European Parliament with the overwhelming majority of votes urged to declare the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a terrorist organization. There were 598 deputies who voted in favor of the decision, 9 deputies were against it and 31 voted against it. The Parliament addressed its appeal to the authorities of the European Union and to all European governments.
Of course, if the IRGC were actually proclaimed as a terrorist organization in Europe, the Iranian regime would suffer enormous economic losses, because that would oblige European countries to impose tough sanctions against it.
However, the current decision of the European Parliament is only a declarative step, which does not directly oblige the European Union and its member states to any measures.
Most likely, the European Parliament’s declaration was a sort of warning to the Iranian authorities against increasing cooperation with Russia, in particular sending hundreds (or even thousands) of strike drones that are used against civilian infrastructures and the population of Ukraine. In the destroyed building in Dnepr, according to the current information more than 40 people have already been found dead!
Definitely, we are talking about an important step in the right direction, nevertheless, it is a long way towards the real action of Europeans against the criminal Iranian regime.
Israel, in turn, welcomed the decision of the European Parliament.
