Following a resolution passed this week in the New York State Senate, the section of President Street between Brooklyn and New York Avenues, where the Rebbe’s personal residence is located, has been named “Lubavicher Rebbe Way.”

A resolution sponsored by Sen. Zellnor Y. Myrie (20th Senate District) recognizes the Rebbe King Moshiach’s influence on the Jewish world and beyond. On the Senate floor Wednesday, Myrie said New York City is honored to recognize that message by co-naming President Street as “Lubavitch Rebbe Way,” and called on his colleagues to join him in honoring the Rebbe by increasing good works.

The Senate passed Resolution 545 and confirmed the street renaming.

The ceremony underscored the Rebbe’s timeless message and far-reaching impact as a leader whose vision continues to guide and inspire generations.

The proposal was originally proposed and supported by Crown Heights activist R. Yaakov Berman 30 years ago. The proposal was formally introduced by Councilwoman Crystal Hudson and has received significant support from local leaders and elected officials.

Crystal Hudson stated: “Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, known as the Lubavitcher Rebbe, is the seventh leader of the Chabad movement and one of the most transformative figures in modern Jewish history.”
