The news of the victory in the “books affair” arrived on the 5th of Tevet.
Since then, we celebrate this day as a great holiday. This is a victory day of the light of Hasidism over the forces of darkness, when we prevailed — “Didan nozach”.
The Rebbi, King Moshiach called the 5th of Tevet — “The Day of the Holy Jewish Books” and called on all Jews to purchase books according to the Jewish tradition, starting with the Torah itself (“Pentateuch”), the Tanakh, prayer books (“Siddur”), the book of Psalms, the book of “Tanya”, etc.
In one of his addresses, the Rebbe explained that the return of stolen books is like the return of captives — and this is one of the most important commandments.
Below are important dates in the “Matter of the Books” story:
Kislev 13, 5747. It was ruled that the Rebbe King Moshiach did not have to testify in court.
5 Tevet 5747. The Day of (We Are Victorious) demonstrated openly in the eyes of all peoples (Federal Court) in relation to the books and manuscripts of the heads of the Chabad from the Lubavitcher library.
7 Tevet 5747. The Rebbe said it was an “auspicious day.”
25 Mar-Cheshvan 5748. The appeal opposing the ruling in the “Matter of the Books” was postponed.
27 Mar-Cheshvan 5748. The decision was made that books should be returned to their place in 770.
2 Kislev 5748. The books arrived in "770".
2 Kislev 5749. After the evening prayers, the Rebbe wished everyone: “A happy holiday!”
26 Tishrei 5750. A ruling was made that the Rebbe King Moshiach did not have to testify in a court hearing at which accusations against the Rebbe were leveled. Informants were claiming that the Rebbe’s alleged victory had led to violent acts by the “extremists”.
19 Tevet 5750. The trial against the Rebbe was postponed and “We Have Been Victorious”
28 Elul 5750. The last books were returned to the library.
