The Israeli Air Force shot down a Syrian drone

This evening, the Air Force shot down a drone that had infiltrated from Syria. The drone made about 20-25 km into Israeli territory and was shot down, apparently by fighter jets or helicopters launched into the specified area.

Israel’s air defense capabilities against drones and drones are based on both anti-aircraft batteries (such as Patriot and Iron Dome), electronic and cyber warfare, as well as the shooting down of air-to-air missiles fired from fighter jets, or missiles fired from attack helicopters.

There has been very intense activity in the northern sky in the last few hours and it’s still going on. It appears that the drone was shot down north of the Sea of Galilee, and IDF forces are now searching for its wreckage.

The drone is believed to be an Iranian-made aircraft, but it is unclear whether it was armed or was designed for photography and reconnaissance.

In any case, this seems to be the Iranian response to the attacks in which Iranian “advisers” have been eliminated in recent days.

As previously mentioned, the Air Force is on high alert in the north, and their forces continue to operate in the skies over the region to deter or prevent the emergence of additional threats.

We emphasize, however, that there is no combat alert directive in the north, and there is no escalation to be expected.

It seems that this is an attempt by Iran to fight back, or at least to send a deterrent signal from Iran to Israel, and this after Iran has suffered heavy strikes in Syria, and has lost at least two senior officers and possibly other operatives as well.

The fact that the drone penetrated at least 20-25 kilometers does not necessarily indicate a failure of Israel, and it is very possible that it was indeed under surveillance, as stated by an IDF spokesman and they chose not to shoot it down immediately, but to intercept it over an uninhabited area, even at the cost of getting a little bit into Israeli territory.

The first suspect of sending the drone is Hizbullah, but keep in mind that there are many militias operating in Syria that are under Iranian control, and it is very possible that one of them is the actual one who activated the drone, or indeed it was done by Hizbullah.

These militias include tens of thousands of people, some of them Syrians and some are volunteers from various countries, such as Afghanistan, coming to Syria, where they operate with funding, guidance, and Iran’s training. Some of these militias regularly use drones, and it is possible that one of them received orders to launch a drone toward Israel.

It is also possible that this is a direct action by an Iranian military unit, because there are several of them in Syria.

All these directions and of course the type of the drone (whether it was armed or just for reconnaissance purposes) will be checked and Israel’s response will be examined accordingly. The response may be covert, or rather apparent.

Good news to us!
