There is a man who prays in our Chabad synagogue. We have been studying the Rebbe’s talks together for over a year now. He recently told me that his ancestor was a great rabbi in Syria and wrote a book with commentaries on RAMBAM. I became interested and asked him to bring me this book.

It turned out that his ancestor was Rabbi Yehuda Katzin, the author of the book „The Camp of Yehuda“. He is a great and righteous genius in the Torah, setting a great example in his degree of humility with all his virtues. Rabbi Yehuda Katzin was born in 1708 in Syria in the city of Aleppo (in Jewish sources — Aram-Tzova). He was a student of the sage Yosef Abadi and later headed the rabbinical court of the city.

He met Rabbi Chaim ben Athar in the Holy Land, who held a feast in his honor.

May his descendant also be blessed to follow in the path of his great-grandfather and also continue to discover innovations in the Torah with the fear of G-d, humility and piety.
