One of the signs of the Redemption, mentioned in the holy prophets, the book of Zohar, and the talks of the Rebbe, King Moshiach, is revolutions. In recent years, we have witnessed revolutions even in the Middle East, leading to the collapse of many tyrannical regimes thought to be long-lasting.
Now, this wave seems to have reached Asia. In South Korea — a country considered democratic and highly progressive — dramatic events have unfolded. On the evening of December 3, the President unexpectedly announced martial law, citing threats from North Korea and the need to protect the country from opposition parties.
In response, numerous parties gathered in the parliament and declared they would not accept the President’s decision. Remarkable images from the parliament showed individuals setting up beds and belongings at the gates to block the military’s entry — a truly unprecedented event.
Subsequently, the South Korean military began advancing toward the parliament. Reports also surfaced of clashes between police and protesters near the main entrance to the parliament building.
Ultimately, all lawmakers in the parliament unanimously voted to annul the martial law. Since the country’s constitution allows such a vote to override the President’s decision, the army did not storm the parliament hall. Nevertheless, military leaders declared that in their view, martial law remained in effect until the President officially revoked it. By morning, the entire presidential administration had resigned.
The United States — South Korea’s closest ally — announced it is closely monitoring these dramatic and unprecedented developments.
