Various media reports are emerging about progress in reaching an agreement with Saudi Arabia. Peace is a good thing. However, obviously it should not be at any cost. There are several important points to keep in mind in this case.
First of all, I would like to point out that Saudi Arabia has long been interested in obtaining a military nuclear arsenal. For this purpose, it has been actively pursuing civilian nuclear projects for a long time. What Riyadh has now concluded is that they need some sort of U.S.-Israeli "kosher" certificate for their nuclear efforts in general. Furthermore, it is clear that Saudi Arabia will demand "payment" from Israel in the form of concessions to the Arabs of PA.
Moreover, Saudi Arabia's ambition to obtain the latest U.S. stealth aircraft has been previously discussed. At the moment, Israel is the only one who possesses them in the entire Middle East. Even Turkey, a member of the NATO alliance, does not have these jets. In other words, this is Israel's huge strategic advantage in the entire Middle East right now. Unfortunately, it is likely that Saudi Arabia will demand at least 100 stealth airplanes as part of the agreement.
All of those things, that are mentioned above, are in my opinion neither justified nor necessary!
There is absolutely no reason for Israel to pay such a high price at the expense of its current strategic advantages - nuclear weapons (according to foreign publications) and stealth airplanes. There is definetely zero reason why we should once again make concessions to the terrorist regimes ruling over the Arabs of PA.
Similar concessions in the past have only led to devastating troubles, including terrible wars and waves of terror, not to mention huge expenses.
Saudi Arabia has plenty of other interests which might reasonably lead it to make peace with Israel - without making actual concessions to the terrorist regimes that rule the PA Arabs in Judea and Samaria and the Gaza Strip.
For instance, by making peace with us, Saudi Arabia will be able to get extensive security assistance from Israel, high-tech cooperation, and actual commitments from the United States to modernize the Saudi defense system.
This is more than enough. Therefore, there is absolutely no reason for Israel to give up its crucial military advantages.
Obviously, if Saudi Arabia obtains a U.S.-Israeli "kosher" certificate for its nuclear projects, Egypt, Turkey, and possibly the UAE as well, will rush to get nuclear weapons. Then Iran will surely declare that it aims to possess nuclear weapons like everybody else..
In other words, Israel should defend its vital interests and preserve its strategic advantages. Let's hope that there are enough people in the current government who understand this well.
