At the end of last week, the Israeli Foreign Intelligence Service (Mossad) removed the “top secret” label from a number of documents related to the Yom Kippur War, and released a new book about this war, written by the service’s representatives.
The published documents clearly and explicitly confirm that Israel had accurate intelligence information which warned that the war was about to begin. In other words, the Israeli government, wishing to save Israeli lives, both military and civilian, should have mobilized reserves and launched a preemptive strike against enemy positions (as was done in the victorious Six Day War). Unfortunately, the leaders of the left-wing coalition ruling at the time — Prime Minister Golda Meir and Defense Minister Moshe Dayan — did not allow Chief of the General Staff David Elazar (Dado) to do any of these things. They chose the deaths of thousands of Israelis over complicating relations with the US.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe SHLITA King Moshiach has been pointing out for years that the Israeli government was fully aware of what was about to happen, but nevertheless refused to take preemptive action, contrary to the demands of Chief of Staff Dado, who pleaded for an immediate mobilization of the reserves and a massive preemptive counterstrike that would have foiled the enemy’s plans and resulted in the defeat of the Arab armies.
The lesson from this tragedy is clear — in security matters, politicians should rely more on security experts than on political considerations, no matter how important they may be! Because we are talking about the lives of many people.
The documents released in the last few weeks about the “Oslo Accords” show exactly the same tragic mistake of the leftist leaders Rabin and Peres who were in charge at the time. While the entire army leadership spoke out against the tremendous risks incorporated in the agreements with the terror bosses, Rabin and Peres simply rejected the opinion of army experts and, worse, concealed these concerns from the public. Moreover, for a long time Rabin and Peres completely concealed and even denied the preparation of the surrender agreements from the public. The result was that the Oslo Accords, prepared by the radical left, became the greatest tragedy for the country in its entire existence, the grave consequences of which we have not been able to overcome to this day.
Let us have only good news...
